ISSION, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The mission of the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science is to provide a high quality educational experience for undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of architectural, environmental, geotechnical, structural, and transportation engineering and environmental science. The education experience is accomplished through innovative classroom instruction aided by computer and multimedia-based instruction, laboratory experiences and student mentoring. The products of this experience are engineers and scientists capable of critical thinking, devoted to a lifetime of learning, and highly sought after by employers.

VISION

By the year 2010 the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma will be a nationally-recognized high-quality center for the study of architectural, environmental, geotechnical and structural engineering, and environmental science. The faculty's obligation will be balanced between excellence in research, graduate teaching and undergraduate teaching.

 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

CIVIL ENGINEERING

Objectives

The Civil Engineering Bachelor of Science alumni will have embarked on successful careers in areas associated with the development, implementation, and management of civil engineering systems.

Outcomes

Graduating seniors will be technically competent in core areas within civil engineering and related sciences and mathematics

Graduating seniors will be able to work within a team and communicate effectively

Graduating seniors will be able to synthesize diverse information to develop creative and ethically sound design solutions

The Civil Engineering Bachelor of Science alumni will advance in their careers and continue their professional development through continuing education and lifelong learning.

Graduating seniors will be able to function in an evolving engineering practice

Graduating seniors will understand the importance of continuing education, professional registration, and ethical responsibilities

Graduating seniors will be able to work within a team, develop project management skills and communicate effectively
